About Us

Goodwill Education Center houses Goodwill High School, the continuation high school for the Victor Valley Union High School District, Independent Study, and Success High School and Middle School. The 9 classified and 27 certificated staff members (10 full time teachers, 13 part time teachers, 1 full time roving sub, 1 counselor, 1 dean of students, and 1 principal) provide an alternative approach to traditional high school education. Goodwill Education Center focuses on a personalized education for students from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds that is relevant, motivational and sensitive to individual student needs. The majority of students who attend GEC come from the high schools and community of Victorville. There is a constant waiting list of students who wish to enroll

Students can recover credits by earning more credits in a shorter period of time. Classes typically do not follow the traditional schedule; by allowing students to take fall classes in the spring (and so on) students can recover the classes they need to graduate. The time between when a student completes a course and is transferred to a new course has dramatically decreased. In contrast to a traditional high school where there typically are two opportunities a year to earn credit, Goodwill offers four opportunities to earn credits thus allowing a chance for accelerated credits without the loss of a rigorous curriculum.

Each student attends an SLA (Smaller Learning Academy) daily. Through our Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports program students interact through our MAVS mindset that have a learning and behavioral expectation of: Motivation, Accountable, Values Respect, and Success. SLA serves as a home room for each student. During SLA students have an opportunity to review their grades and credits with the SLA teacher who is in turn responsible for communicating the scheduling needs of the student along with any other pertinent information to the school counselors. This also gives each student a teacher to communicate with on a daily basis should the student have an issue they need to discuss either academically or personally. SLA is a new program this year and thus far has been a real success.
